What dancers are saying:
"I attribute the many Silvestre Technique Intensive trainings I have participated in as a huge factor in my growth as a dancer and professional in the field. I started dancing very late in life and at the time I initiated my studies in the Silvestre Technique, I had never had any formal technical dance training. The technique is for everyone, regardless of prior training or dance experience. The Silvestre Intensive Training is a wonderful opportunity to initiate or dive deeper into your dance studies and body/expressive skills. There are classes and proper levels for all students. This training offers an unparalleled experience as it develops and strengthens you both physically and mentally providing you with expressive tools, dance insight and body skills... I heartedly recommend this training it has changed my life!
- Samantha Goodman (Los Angeles, California)
"Silvestre Technique has opened a world of dance inside of me; a world of physical, emotional and spiritual wealth. I found Silvestre Technique and it has found me. A story like I’ve seen happen over and over again though the years of being part of the Silvestre family. Coming from a background of capoeira and African dance, my training in Silvestre Technique has allowed to acquire the technical skills of a trained professional contemporary dancer. It has allowed me to develop the tools I need to release into the outside world the dances I see in my head…Opening the doors of creativity by connecting my body to the Universe through movement, symbol, legend, discipline and physical training. The web that we create together weaves us into a family that is all-inclusive….the Silvestre link….Dancing the Bond and dancing our own Bond. "
- Maria Isabel Rondon (Montreal, Canada)
"Silvestre Technique has allowed me to have a deeper spiritual connection through movement. Dancing through the 4 elements adds a layer of depth to dance and allows for deeper discovery. During the summer intensive, my body changed physically also. The daily classes strengthened my core so that movement is performed in a controlled and fluid manner. The technique has helped me to develop musicality, flexibility, endurance, as well as my self confidence. Now when I dance, I am grounded, I have balance, and reasoning for each movement. My dancing has become purposeful and I have a greater appreciation for my body, its shape, and strength. This appreciation has been found through the acknowledgement of energy, space, and bodies; in which I've learned through Silvestre Technique. This focus has become a daily ritual and remains true to me each time I dance; I am grateful to have discovered it in studying with Rosangela and Vera."
-Tamara Williams (New York City)
" The beauty of the Silvestre Technique is in its universality.
For those intensely physical learners it is a challenging technique that emphasizes placement and moving efficiently within one's own body while continuously working to expand one's body's capabilities. Silverstre requires hyperawareness of the body in order to visualize, understand, and ultimately express to the universe one's unique physical truth. For the more spiritual learners, the technique is rooted in the chakras, the four elements, and the powers of the Orixás, which are essentially all pathways to connect the body to the cosmos and the divine. The technique teaches that through properly
moving the body and focused consciousness, you open the channels of energy within oneself and as a means to connect to that which is outside of the self." - Kendra Ross (New York City)
"Rosangela is a person who has brought me great inspiration in her creative and and professional way of creating a new contemporary technique, something that is very extraordinary to manege in our time. I am very proud of having Rosangela as my teacher and I can see the great possibility for this technique to make progress all over the world."
- Robby Rocha (Brazil, Sweden)
"....I've never been interested in learning Japanese traditional dances. they were always more foreign for me. Rosangela had an answer, " No matter where you were born or coming from, this dance welcomes you. It is a dance of the Universe." Since then, I have become a member of the Silvestre family." - Natsuki Hayashi (Tokyo, Japan)
"The Intensive made me grow as a person and as a dance researcher. I perceived and understood that dance technique can be accessible for everyone, and can prepare us for movement possibility that translates our universal communication that made me realize it doesn't matter where you come from, the language, color of your skin, and the cultural and professional baggage. As a Brazilian, and having a passion for dance, I perceive in the Silvestre Technique a training work that I can identify elements of my culture that clearly favor and emphasize my expressiveness in everything that I live, and everything that I dance." - Emilena Santos (Salvador, Brazil)
Experiencing this intensive training in Salvador brought me to an entirely different level in my body, mind, and spirit. Through the profound alchemy of Orixa movement, Composition, Ballet, Floor Barre, and Silvestre Technique, I discovered more potential and power than I could imagine I possessed. Dancing in Bahia with exquisite teachers encouraged me to rise to the occasion of my heart's desires. To be in the essence of dance was simply magical. - Erika Smallen (Santa Rosa, California)
"As a Brazilian, I find it important to identify elements of our culture in a dance technique. The essence of the Silvestre Technique is to see the symbolism being used as a means of teaching dance and a particular way of dancing so universal that any dancer can find himself or herself in it. Rosangela's work is impossible to separate from Rosangela's personality, her spiritual way of seeing dance, her strength and her generosity - all having a close relationship with her dance."
- Luanda Mori (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
"Rosangela and Vera got me to JUMP and move in ways I never thought I could. They believe in me...they believe in all of us. That was such a lesson for me to see how we are all capable. The trip I took to Brasil was only intended to last for 1 month but I ended up staying for 3 just so I could train more with these incredible women. Since the first intensive I was motivated to create and apply all the knowledge I had received. I created my dance company and dove even deeper into myself and the Silvestre Technique. I have attended the intensive each year and currently bring my own students to participate. Working with Rosangela Silvestre has changed my life, and I continue to evolve. The technique has given me the freedom to explore my potential and the endless amount of possibilities there are for all of us." - Adrianna Yanuziello (Toronto, Canada)
"When I started to learn Silvestre Technique, I immediately began to feel a new kind of body sensation that I had never felt before. I felt my back open and present. I felt all of my body cells start to wake up. I began to open my body and started feeling bigger, as I became aware of polarities in the body and the four directions of the universe... This journey with the Technique has definitely taught me how to converse with my body, how to feel my body from inside, and to feel the body connected to the bigger existence." - Yuko Tamura (Tachikawa, Tokyo, Japan)
"I find the program that Rosangela Silvestre and Vera Passos offer in Brazil to be truly revolutionary. Studying with these two highly gifted teachers has profoundly affected my dancing as well as enhanced my work in every way. No matter how I choose to move, the essence of this technique is there and the more I develop, the deeper I want to go with it!"
- Tika Morgan (San Francisco, California)
"The Silvestre Technique has made me grow tremendously. Rosangela says that dance is a body language, and with those wise words I have started to realize how the dance can speak to me and how I can express myself with the dance and together with the ones dancing with me." - Lovisa Baldal (Gothenburg, Sweden)
Completing the Silvestre Technique January program in Salvador in 2009 was one of the most profound things I have ever done. The immersion in Silvestre Technique, and all the supporting classes, took my dancing and my heart to a deeper place. Being in Salvador for a month, taking the bus to class each day and learning about the music and dance of Brazil contributed to a completely transformative month. Nothing else has changed me in the same way, so quickly. The structure of the program supported a deep embodiment of the technique. The theory classes helped integrate the deep meaning behind the movement and the intention of connecting with the elements through our bodies. And the instructors had a deeply refined skill and unending passion. The program is first rate...premeiro! - Yarrow King (Tuscon, Arazona)
